When was the last time you check your attitude at the door?

Hello Everyone:
How often do you check your attitude prior to seeing your prospects or clients/customer? Probably you do not do this often enough or may not even be aware of this. That’s why I tell my clients to check their attitude at the door prior to seeing their prospects or clients/customers.
Now, what does all this mean? Here is an example- One day, I was running late to a network meeting and on my way up the elevator I met another women. I asked her if she was on her way up to the meeting. She looked at me and said yes for she did not seem too excited. It was as if it was so painful for her to be there. There was a presentation after the cocktail mixer. Prior to the presentation, I went up to her again to introduce myself and asked her if everything was all right with her for she seemed distracted. Well, she said she had so much work to do and did not want to be here. Since, I picked up her non-verbal cues at the elevator and then getting confirmation when I spoke to her later. How is this portrayed if she was in front of a prospect or client/customer? She probably lose a viable potential client/customer and that sale went out the door.
Prior to seeing a prospect or client/customer always check your attitude. If you are in a bad mood or upset, take sometime to recompose yourself and then see your client. This interaction will be off to great start. Rather than being upset or annoyed, your clients/customers will see those emotions right on your face and that may not look too good. Sometimes when one is upset, they also tend to take it out on others.

You are so right Jane, first impressions are so important and a
bad attitude can ruin a business deal. I have to pay attention to
this in my offline business as it is too easy to appear stressed
which spoils the experience for the client.

I find this is so important in teaching as well. If you are in a bad mood while starting a class and you don’t check your attitude, your class is NOT going to go well. The students pick up on your mood and react to the emotions that you are displaying. It can be difficult to conceal emotions, but it certainly is possible with a little effort. Even better, tell yourself that you feel differently and put on a smile! Acting the part can often bring about a change of mood.

It is like people know and sense your emotions a mile away. Just by non-verbal gestures and facial expressions people can tell what kind of mood the other person is having. What’s the saying “Don’t ever let them see you sweat”
Have agood day.
