Coaches and Consultants – Using Linked In to Attract Great Clients

If you’ve been using social media for any period of time you’ve heard about LinkedIn. Chances are you’ve put up a profile hoping to attract business.

Whether or not you’re getting the most out of LinkedIn may be open for discussion. The same holds true for virtually any social network. You may have an account and a profile, but are you getting the most out of your efforts?

Each social network has specific strategies you must implement in order to optimize what you are doing. With LinkedIn your profile plays a big role as to whether or not you are easy to find beyond someone simply imputing your name. Ideally when someone inputs keywords that are specific to what you do your profile is near (or at) the top.

Unfortunately, this is not the case for most people listed on LinkedIn. Only a fraction of active members are found based on keyword searches. Why? Because most experts are incredibly ambiguous in how they describe themselves, who their market is and what their background is.

Expertise
Although there are some profiles that are very detailed and specific to an area of expertise there are countless more that are not.

The one commonality in the majority of the profiles is an ambiguous identification of what the person does and who their target market is.

For example, in the coaching industry there are life coaches, business coaches, executive coaches, marketing consultant, etc. Although some may think this is enough of an identifier to attract the right type of client… it’s not.

The question that begs to be asked is, “What kind of Life Coach and for whom?” “Who are you a marketing consultant for? What industry and type of client?”

A life coach for recently divorced professional women is very different than a life coach for professional athletes. A marketing consultant for the equestrian industry is very different than one for the entertainment industry.

Ask most coaches and consultants what their major challenge in business is and they will likely answer, “Attracting enough of the right kind of clients.” The right kind of clients would be those you are a great match for and they are a great match for your expertise.

The solution… be clear on who you are and who your ideal client is.

To attract more than enough business you have to be much more specific about who you are and what makes you an expert.

Ambiguity won’t work. In the past it might have, but today there are far too many coaches and consultants for a client to choose from. This means the more specific you are the better.

Some may believe that by being too specific they are eliminating business. Actually, you are. But it’s likely the business that is a better fit for someone else rather than you.

When you are viewed as an expert for a specific market (or markets) you actually have an easier time attracting an abundance of clients for your practice/business AND you will attract more of the types of clients you want to work with.

If your business is not where you want it to be start with the basics:

  • Who am I? What is my expertise? What is unique about what I do?
  • Who do I enjoy working with? Who am I qualified to work with? Who do I want to work with?

             Consider this:

  • Is your profile clear and specific?
  • Will you stand out from the thousands of others who might be vying for the same business you are?
  • Will potential clients have an easy time finding you?

If you answered NO to the “consider this” questions rework your profile as soon as possible. To see what’s working for other experts do a profile search with the keywords your potential clients would use to find someone with your expertise.

Notice which experts rise to the top of a search. Review their profile. How have they positioned their expertise AND how does the description of the type of clients they work with read?

Reworking your profile is not something that should be put on the “someday I will do it” list. Do it immediately. After all, don’t you want to begin attracting more business immediately?

Blog Talk Radio Show- Revisited

Hello Everyone:

Today’s blog post is about my conversation with Rosey Dow, who host her own Blog Talk Radio Show “Let’s Get Real! Marketing”.  Met Rosey back in May 2010 at the Radiant Success Event out in Raleigh, North Carolina. If you have not attended this conference, I strongly advise that you attend next year which will be held in Atlanta, Georgia in April 2011. It is unbelievable what happens after these events and the connections one has made with other participant. It just spirals and turns into new joint ventures, partnerships as well as friendships. You get to work up close and personal with The Five Fabulous Successful Business Divas- Ellen Britt, Kathleen Gage, Marnie Pehrson, Janis Pettit and Denise Wakeman.  This was my first conference as a solo entrepreneur and small home based business owner.

Rosey shared about her success and experience as the host of her own Blog Talk Radio Show. One thing that I enjoy the most was how easy it is to set up your own blog talk radio show and managing the switchboard. This sounds like so much fun.

Here are some key take aways that I learned from Rosey with starting a Radio Talk Show.

1) Schedule shows 3 to 4 days prior to recording.

2) Always be prepared prior and close to the end of the show to provide your contact information, so listeners can get in touch with you if they should have further questions.

3) Thank your guest and listeners for attending.

Thank You Rosey for taking the time out of your hectic schedule to share with us your experience with hosting a Blog Talk Radio Show. Now, I am determined to set up one too. More information to follow.

Have a good day. Happy Blogging!

Business Lesson from a day at the Beach

Hello Everyone:

Hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. I was at the beach earlier and the business lesson that I learned is that one cannot rush into things. Sometimes one must take time to to brainstorm ideas and then test them out. My prospects were seagulls and sometimes they can be fussy customers. It’s like having lunch at the beach and they all start to come over. Not sure if they like to take french fries, burgers or soda. Now, why is that? Could it be that it is more convenient for them to use their beak to get the french fries rather than the burger or the soda? Not that I am comparing people to birds, more of an observation. You must put yourself in the customers shoes and walk a mile in them to see how it feels. Lesson learned at the beach is to understand where your customers are coming from.

Should I Host a Blog Talk Radio Show? 4 Things I learned from Louise Crooks “Keys to Clarity”

Hello Everyone:

Thoughts have crossed my mind to host my own Blog Talk Radio Show. So far, I have been interviewed by two talk show host last week.

June 16, 2010 Blog Talk Radio Show “Coaching with Crystal”  The lovely Crystal Williamson interview with me on blogging and marketing your business.

June 17, 2010 Blog Talk Show “Transforming Women Now” The fabulous Susan Creal interviews me on Sell is not a 4 letter word. All about sales and how to grow your business.

Personally, these were both great experiences and to get a different perspective of what it is like sitting on the hot seat while being interviewed.

Last Friday, I had a phone conversation with Louise Crooks, who hosts her own Blog Talk Radio Show “Keys to Clarity”. Louise has been on the show for over 2 years. Really enjoyed my interview with her for she is inspiring,  sincere and gives great sound advice.  I wanted to obtain her viewpoint of what it is like hosting a radio show, the benefits and advantages. Also some advice for a novice like myself and others interested in hosting a show on Blog Talk Radio.

Here are the 4 key take aways that I learned from Lousie.

1) Growing your public platform skills and increase your credibility as well as visibility in the community. According to Louise, she has was able to present at last year’s International Coaching Federation conference, and speak as an expert coach.

2) Joint ventures and partnership are built and formed.

3) It takes time to grow viewers/listeners and one needs to spend time with marketing the show.

4) Meet other celebrities in your industry and have fun interviewing them.

Hope this blog post provides further insight into hosting an online radio show such as Blog Talk Radio. Please share your comments with us.

Half-Way through the 30 day Blogging Challenge. Lessons Learned. Oh My!

Hello Everyone:

Latest progress notes on my involvement with the 30 day blog challenge. I am already at the half way mark of the challenge. Today is the 16th day of the challenge and what have I learned so far, but before I reveal this.

It is not easy blogging everyday if one is not accustomed to this format. I hardly ever write! There were days when I say to myself. What was I thinking to put myself on this type of a program when I do not even work out at the gym on a regualr basis.

Yes, I have to admit that I cheated on some days and have doubled up on blog posts. Please do not tell MOM. They might send out the Blog Police (Jeanette Cates and Connie Ragen Green) and I may be excommunicated from the next 30 day blog challenge. Mums the word.

Can you tell how much fun I am having?

Okay getting back to business. Here are some of the lessons learned at the half-way mark of the 30 day log challenge.

1) The blogging community is amazing. I have met many bloggers from all walks of life from entrepreneurs, coaches, internet marketers, healers, teachers, people online and offline business owners just to name of few. Not to mention bloggers from around the world.

2) The amount of content that gets posted on a daily basis. It’s like an online library of publications from A-Z. The wealth of knowledge of each writer/blogger is so immense when they are all pooled together.

3) The newfound friendships that have formed as well as joint ventures and other collaborative partnerships in the making. The possibilities are endless. Hope these friendships and partnership contine to cultivate after the blog challenge.

4) Lot more traffic generation and people visiting my website. I love to read blogs and comment on them for I learn new things and develop my writing skills.

5) Getting indepth education on backlinks, SEO, plugins, article marketing, affiliate marketing.

6) Bloggers syndicating and sharing other blog article through the Social Media highway-Facebook, Twitter and Digg. A tweet here and a tweet-tweet there does wonders.

Thank you for visiting this blog. I am so happy that you dropped by. Please post a comment and share your blogging experience with us.

Happy Blogging!

Why did you Become an Entrepreneur? Part II

Why did you Become An Entrepreneur?  Part II

Welcome Back Everyone

Just wanted to share with you below the comments that I received from Part I of this blog post. Thank you for your participation and Best Wishes with your continued success with growing your business to the next level.

Connie Ragen Green - Build your Online Empire with Connie Ragen Green

“Numbers 2 through 5 describe why I came online at the end of 2005. The first year I made almost no money, but soon I connected with a wonderful coaching program and now I am living the life of my dreams.”

Kimberly Wagner - The Cheeky Lit Teacher/English Teacher Support and Resource

“Reason five most applies to my situation. I also believe I’m capable and have a specific skill set to offer. I’m focusing on building content right now; I’m not sure how I’ll be monetizing.”

Lauren McMullen - Time Finder 4 You- Your Social Media Marketing Specialist

“My reason for becoming an entrepreneur is a little different. I had been a stay at home wife on our little hobby horse farm for over 15 years but then my husband became ill and was diagnosed with kidney disease. He was forced to retire early and I needed to go back to work because the medical bills quickly depleted our retirement savings. I feel so blessed that the Internet allowed me the opportunity to follow my passion with the Internet and create my own business as a Social Media Specialist. There is no better time in history to become an entrepreneur!”

My intention and purpose of this post is that I want you to remember Why or What made you become an entrepreneur. Sometimes we forget why we became an entrepreneur. There are times you just want to throw in the towel and give up. Being an entrepreneur takes a lot of guts and determination to succeed. There are ebbs and flow with running a business just like the waves in the ocean.  Think back to the time when you became and entrepreneur. Remember what it was like? How did it make you feel inside? Can you see it. Bring those feeling and energy to the present.

3 things to keep the energy and momentum going as an entrepreneur

1) Surround yourself with supportive people. It’s great when you have family and friends with you on the same page. What do you do if you don’t have this? Find like minded people. Join organizations and associations that can support you and vice versa. Who you associate with is important. If you hang out with positive and successful people, you will also become successful. If you relate with negative and bitter people, imagine what the results would be.

2) Get a Mentor or a Coach- We all have a certain way of doing things. Sometime we are not able to see beyond where we are standing. With a mentor or a coach, they are able to help us look at things from a different viewpoint and they can hold us accountable. Another great support system here folks.

3) Stay on course and take daily action steps to get closer to your goal.

Stay tune till tomorrow for another blog post on information and resources that will help grow your business to the next level.

10 Business Tips from 5 Successful Women Entrepreneurs

10 Business Building Tips from 5 Successful Entrepreneurs

It’s no secret that in order to grow your business, you have to take thoughtful, consistent action. Business success doesn’t happen overnight and there are many, many roads to get there. Here are 10 business building tips from five super successful entrepreneurs: Janis Pettit, Kathleen Gage, Ellen Britt, Marnie Pehrson and Denise Wakeman.  You can get a lot more great tips with their free gift at  the Radiant Success Event.

1. Create a Strategy and Process for everything you do in your business.
Random actions get random results. Whether you’re doing some marketing, offering a teleclass, or doing a live presentation, networking, or launching a new product you need to map out a strategy that will take you step by step to the result you want. Once you’ve nailed down your process or strategy you can use it again and again to get similar results. Taking a “shot in the dark” approach where you try an approach hoping it will work without thinking it through from beginning to end result is like playing darts while wearing a blindfold. Creating process maps as a visual really helps with this process. Janis Pettit, Small Business Strategy and Lifestyle Coach

2. Be willing to invest in your education. However, as you learn new information, apply it. It never ceases to amaze me how many people will either not invest anything in their knowledge base or buy so much, without applying anything. Education application is a discipline. Kathleen Gage, The Street Smarts Marketer™

3. Own Your Marketing DNA.  So many people try to copy others when all they have to do is be true to themselves. Besides, you can’t be anyone else no matter how hard you try. Develop your own style, your own unique brand. If you like to write, then do blogging and article marketing, if you have a great voice but are afraid of the camera, then audio can be your thing, or if you can’t wait for your close-up, then step in front of the camera and let your personality shine. The key is great content, delivered consistently and in your own voice. Go for it! Ellen Britt, Co-Founder of Marketing Qi

4. Daily action is required. A great many resistant entrepreneurs fail to take daily action to build their online presence even though they have seen great results when they do focus on building an online presence. I’m not referring to having a website, blog or eBay store. I’m talking about marketing so that people know your sites or online store exists. Kathleen Gage

5. Do your keyword research!  Go to Google’s Keyword Tool and type in your primary keyword phrase.  Make sure people are searching for what you’re trying to advertise. Marnie Pehrson, Creator of IdeaMarketers.com

6. Use a blog as your primary social marketing hub and home base, so you can attract more search engine traffic with consistent, keyword rich content. Your business blog is where you create your point of distinction in the marketplace and demonstrate your expertise to build credibility and trust. Then, to boost your visibility on the Web, syndicate your blog content to strategic social networking sites so you can attract new prospects and bring them back to your home base with opportunities for conversion. Denise Wakeman, Founder of The Blog Squad and Online Marketing Advisor

7. Always have a Call to Action. Never do advertising or marketing that doesn’t include a call to action. Whether you’re placing an ad or sending people to a webpage, always explain clearly what you want them to do to engage with you further. If you’re using direct mail, phone calls, speaking or networking to grow your business, always provide a clear action step you want people to take. Go back over all of your marketing materials, including things like your business card and e-mail signature and see how you can add a call-to-action. You’ll be amazed at how much better your results will be! Janis Pettit

8. Become An Online Real Estate Investor. No, not that kind! I’m talking about the unused “real estate” on your website. One of the most valuable pieces of online property you already possess is your Thank You page. Instead of letting it go to waste with a generic “thank you for signing up for my newsletter” message, give your subscribers a great offer on one of your products or services simply for being a new subscriber. They will appreciate it and you can quickly separate your buyers from the tire kickers! Ellen Britt

9. When using articles as a marketing tool, put your main keyword phrase in your article title, the article summary and the first 140 characters of the article. Marnie Pehrson

10. Use video to drive traffic and boost your online visibility. It’s a powerful tool for increasing trust and credibility because it creates a deeper connection with the viewer. They spend more time on your site and ultimately have a deeper level of engagement with you. Denise Wakeman
