Hello Everyone:

Hope you all had a good 4th of July. After blogging for 30 days plus a 7 day mini challenge, I needed a vacation. Want to share with my readers that it is always a good thing to take some time off.

This past weekend we traveled to Block Island, RI. Took the ferry from New London, CT to Block Island, Rhode Island. Just being on the ferry with the wind blowing in your face/hair with the sun shining and greeting you with a big smile. You can smell the fresh salty sea air. It’s a hidden destination getaway. Perfect place for some rest and relaxation. Block Island is a small little island. If you are a sun worshiper, surfer, sailor, hiker or biker, this is definitely the place to visit. There is a little something for everyone. Quaint shops to purchase tee-shirts, sun dresses, and other unique items.

Once we arrived at the port. There are places to rent bikes and mopeds which is the best way to travel the island. We decided to walk around town a bit, grab lunch and then bike the rest of the afternoon. Ending the day with dinner and heading back to Connecticut on the last ferry.

We started by walking up Spring Street, passed by an Inn and further up the path is Abrams Animal Farm which is an exotic petting zoo. There were Camels, Kangaroos, Emu, Yak, Llama, Lemurs, Minature Horse, and many other animals. The most exciting one was the Zee-Donk- see if you can find their photo in the video below. Amazing animal and very friendly too, it is a mixture of a Zebra and a Donkey. If you see the photograph, the lower part of the body has stripes like a Zebra. Too bad, I was not able to get a photo of the ringtailed Lemurs for they both swung away.

Next we headed back for some lunch. Talk about the food and the New England coast has some of the best seafood from lobster, mussels to clam chowder. Not to be missed is the Lobster Roll. Yummy.

Have not ridden a bike for over 30 years. It’s all muscle memory. Once, you are on the bike it is a little akward but after a while it’s a piece of cake. So here are some of the breath taking views.

-The beautiful pristine beaches and the tourquiose water that just reminds me of the Carribean.
-Walking the Mohegan Bluffs- where you can see Montauk on a clear day.
-The Southeast Light House-Built in 1875, located on Mohegan Bluffs and it’s lights can be seen 21 miles away at sea.
-Great Salt Pond & New Harbor
-Old Harbor

Posting a video of my trip with two of my gal pals. We have been having these getaways for the past 4 years. It’s great to leave the family home, work and just spend quality me time with your girlfriends.

Share with us what you did for the 4th of July or your plans for the Summer.

Happy Blogging!

Taking Time out from work to eat or snack is important.

Hello Everyone:

My last blog post of the day. Sometime we forget to take time out for ourselves and become so self absorbed at work or building our business that we miss meals like breakfast or even lunch. It is so important to fuel and nourish our bodies so we can have energy to continue throughout the day. There are times when I am online and miss lunch and right into dinner. What purpose will that serve? I will be tired and restless if I do not consume a meal. It’s great to stay focused, and be dedicated to your job. But what shape and condition will you be in if one misses a meal. The body begins to shut down and your stomach starts to growl with the words of “Feed Me Now”. Your blood sugar level drops without eating-hypoglycemic and get headaches. Then there are those people who get cranky and angry when they do not eat on time. One also feels lethargic, tired, and your energy just dwindles.

Learning to take healthy snack breaks is a good think. If one is snacking like carrot sticks, granola, apple throughout the day at least one is fueling the fire necessary in the body. Well, I am off to making dinner. Have a good night.

5 Tips and action steps that will get you closer to your dream/goals.

Hello Everyone:

Today’s blog post is about taking action to move closer to your dream/goals.

Let’s see a show of hands. How many of you say?

If I had the time, then I would do…?

I should consider doing….?

Maybe one day when I have all my eggs in one basket then…?

With this type of mindset and thought pattern it will take some reprogramming to get you back on course.

So here are the 5 tips and action steps to move you closer to your dream/goal.

1) It does not have to be a huge undertaking by taking one small step to get you closer to your dream/goal?

2) Visualization exercise- You are living that dream/goal. Share with us what does that picture look like?

3) Set up daily tasks to build momentum to get you there. Remember taking action for 21 days becomes a habit.

4) Post up on your wall, bulletin board, any place visible a picture of your dream/goal. Before you go to bed look at it, and every morning when you wake up look at the picture, item or vision board. Remember out of sight is out of mind. You want to be reminded of your dream/goal.

5) Carry with you a dream journal. Log in your inner most thoughts and action steps you are doing now to get closer to your dream/goal.

We would like to hear from you. What action steps have you used to get closer to your dreams/goals?

In the last post, the question was “As an entrepreneur, what are you most fearful of?

Thank you for responding to this question.

List below are some of the responses that was received.

1) Fear of Failure
2) Fear of Success
3) Fear of Selling
4) Fear of Public Speaking
5) Fear of Taking the First Step
6) Fear of Putting Yourself Out There
7) Fear of Not Making Enough Money
and the list continues…

Here are some techniques used to help alleviate your Fears.

1) Acknowledging your fear is a good thing. It is okay and normal to have fears and anxiety about certain things. This gives us time to assess what is holding us back.

2) Taking the first step is the hardest, however once you put your foot in the door it gets a little bit easier. I remember my fear of public speaking. Yes, I have many fears and have come along way to shift my mindset. Had to do a presentation and the VP of the company was there. I froze and not a peep or sound came out of my mouth. My manager had me take a public speaking course and after that I joined Toastmasters International. Even till this day, those butterflies are still in my stomach and I cringe at the thought of presenting. Yet, I practice my speech and present now with less anxieties.

3) When working with coaches, one of the techniques used is to have their clients send their fear away through visualization exercises. Having a coach is a good thing. My next post is information about coaching.

4) Another technique, is to imagine that if fear was no longer an issue and not holding you back. What would that look like?

5) See yourself in the future (5 or 10 years from now) and you made your dreams come true and it is a reality. Your future self wanted to send you a message. What would your future self tell you regarding this fear that you have right now?

I hope that you enjoyed today’s blog post. Listed above are just some of the techniques used. What are some of the methods and techniques that you have personally used to reduce or alleviate your fears? Love to hear from you. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Share with me your thoughts and other areas of interest that you would like to hear more about with growing your business.

FEAR…

Today’s blog is on facing FEAR and taking back your power. Do you remember a time when you were a child and did not want to sleep in your own bed because of the boogeyman coming out at night and going to snatch you. It was so scary that you ran into mommy and daddy’s room with your favorite teddybear for fear of being alone in your own big bed? But what really is FEAR?

Wikipedia’s definition of Fear-

“Fear is an emotional response to a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. Some psychologists such as John B. Watson, Robert Plutchik, and Paul Ekman have suggested that fear is one of a small set of basic or innate emotions. This set also includes such emotions as joy, sadness, and anger. Fear should be distinguished from the related emotional state of anxiety, which typically occurs without any external threat. Additionally, fear is related to the specific behaviors of escape and avoidance, whereas anxiety is the result of threats which are perceived to be uncontrollable or unavoidable. Worth noting is that fear almost always relates to future events, such as worsening of a situation, or continuation of a situation that is unacceptable. Fear could also be an instant reaction to something presently happening.”

I say it is just a thought and feeling of the unknown and results can vary according to each individual. What is your personal definition of fear?

So, why are we so afraid of the unknown? Is it true that we do not like to be caught off guard or always on a need to know basis? Are we to fear, what is to become of us by the choices and decisions that we make in life? Why do we hold ourselves back from all the possibilites?

As coaches, consultants, service professionals, direct sales leaders, and solo entrepreneurs (will use the term entrepreneur for the 5 mentioned professions), we are risk-takers and make a leap of faith everyday to grow a sustainable business.

My Question for the day is?

As an entrepreneur what are you most fearful of?

To start off- Fear of Failure comes to mind for me.

What about you?

Check in tomorrow for Part II of Stepping into Your Power and Facing your Fears. We will go over strategies to overcome your fears and step into your power.

Stop Texting while Driving.

Hello Everyone:

Today’s post is on the National No Phone Zone Day. Have you signed Oprah’s pledge? How many people text and drive? The numbers are astounding. Yet, everyone is under the impression that they can multi task when driving like eating or drinking a cup of coffee, putting on make-up and texting.

On the Dr. Oz show, “Texting and driving is the kind of multitasking that your brain just can’t handle. It slows your reaction time by 35% , which is the equivalent of 4 alcoholic drinks for a man and 3 alcoholic drinks for a woman. The consequences can be deadly.”

You might think that you can text and drive, and someone else can not do it. I have first hand knowledge of what it is like on the road in NYC on the Brooklyn Queens Expressway where the lanes are so narrow and a flat-bed truck on the right hand land was moving closer my my side of the lane. I slowed down and started honking and honking. When I pulled up next to the guy he was distracted and on the cell phone. Thank goodness, my head was not decapitated that day.

The other time I was a passenger and the driver was texting. Told the person to please stop texting and when the person continued we almost plowed into the car infront of us if I did not scream.

Be safe on the road and do not text while driving.
