Are You Following Too Many Guru’s? It’s Time to Take Action!
By coachjanelee on Aug 2, 2010 in Blogging, Conferences
Hello Everyone:
This is a very touchy subject, but I am going to dive right in and write about this particular subject. How many of you are taking courses with several guru’s. Don’t be shy. Raise your hands. I see a lot of hands up. Are you getting your money’s worth by taking their course. If you are, then congratulations. If you are not then you need to re-evaluate. Do you fit into any of these categories.
Are you taking action steps to get closer to your goal- Many of us take classes for personal self-development and are so excited and jacked out of our minds that once we get back from the seminar or conference, we do not follow through and take action.
When was the last time you reviewed your binders? Yes, they are all stacked on the bookshelf as a great resource have they been utilized frequently or referenced to instead of collecting dust?
Are you following too many Guru’s and do not know what to do next. Have you lost yourself in trying to find what you are passionate about and what your purpose in life is.
Here are some tips to help you get back on track to refocus on your purpose and mission in life.
1) Follow one Guru- If you are following to many people you get blind sighted. Yes, the temptation is so great to learn everything from everyone. What do you actually learn and implement?
2) Take free courses offered by that individual to find out if they resonnate with you and if it is someone you can relate and work with. Why waste your time on spending all that money when you are getting no where and you do not even enjoy the course.
3) Read the fine print of what the course entails and what you will get out of it. Make sure they have a refund policy just in case you are not satisfied or something happens and you can not follow through with taking the course.
4) Take small action steps to get closer to your targeted goal and dream. It is great learning all the stuff, but what are you doing with that information? Are you applying all the principles to practice?
5) Spend money on classes and courses that will help you get to the next level with growing your business.
Stop chasing shiny objects! Instead take what you learn and put it to good use by taking action.
Share with us your thoughts and comments. We love to hear from you.
Happy Blogging!

I totally agree, Jane! There happen to be so many talented people out there that it isn’t hard to be attracted to their “shiny” courses or books. However, it does tend to get overwhelming and defeats the purpose. Great post!

Erin-
Thank You for visiting.Time is of the essence and with so many talented people out there it is so tempting to take every course and book. Need to weed out what is important and prioritize which class and book will be a resource with expanding our business.
Have a good day.
Jane
APPLAUD, Loud and long. The challenge will always remain who to follow and your suggestions are great – shameless self promoters get out there and often muddy the waters fro the people who know but have not promoted as well.
Good work Jane

I definitely hear you on the shameless self promoters that ruin it for others. Have a good day.

Jane,
I like this post. It’s very easy to follow this and think you have to follow that….before you know it, you have no idea who you are or what you stand for. Stepping back and taking stock in your vision should help to set your plan of actin. By all means, you need to have someone or two above you that you admire and watch. Yet it should never be at the expense of your personal identity.
Bright shiny objects will always be there to tempt you. Use your head and think smart!

You’re right, Jane. This is a “touchy” subject.
When someone is fairly new to the internet, it is almost impossible to decipher who you can really trust and whose products and programs are going to ultimately benefit you the most. Unfortunately, in a lot of instances, it’s a matter of (costly) trial and error.
Your tips and suggestions will help many people to avoid the “sting”.
I totally agree with you on choosing just one expert to follow at a time. Once you feel you have “outgrown” that person, then it’s time to move on to learning from someone else who can move you to that next level.
And guess what? It’s also possible to succeed without aligning yourself with gurus!
